"His Majesty The Queen speaking - How can I help you?"

By Michael Sami, 12th March 2010

HIS Majesty the Queen could soon be answering your health related queries after a charity fundraiser from Aberdeen decided to change his name by Deed Poll.

With help from The Legal Deed Service, NHS 24 call operator David Lennox, 29, has vowed to spend an entire year living with a name chosen by popular vote to raise funds for the Association of International Cancer Research.

The on-line vote closes on March 21 and, with only 10 days to go, a clear favourite has emerged.
For the next 12 months it seems David's legal full name will be 'Her Majesty the Queen'. David said: "There are 10 days left and at the moment Her Majesty the Queen is in the lead.

"I've known for a long time that my name is going to change so I don't really mind which one wins as long as I raise a lot of money.

"I have always wanted to do something worthwhile for charity but waited to do something a little bit different.

"This particular charity operates internationally and doesn't get any government funding. I think all cancer charities are obviously worthwhile causes but I like this one because they aren't restricted, they fund the best research wherever it may be in the world."

Other names in David's poll include Batt Mann, Dan Gerous, Sixty Watt and Spartacus Kronos Iain Loki Gaius Achilles Newton Nicodemus Octavius Nasser.

"I picked names I felt I could live with for a year or ones that I thought would raise the most money," David said. "My friends and family think I'm a bit strange, but they like the idea."

Dan Morris, from the organisation, said: "We do get a lot of crazy name changes coming through to us but we think what David is doing is wonderful.

"We find it hilarious that a man could be called Her Majesty the Queen and think it is a very brave thing to do for what is an excellent cause.

"It just goes to show that you can legally change your name to almost anything and we are sure Her Majesty will have lots of fun with his new name."

David added: "I had to assure my employer that the new name wouldn't be rude. If 'Her Majesty' does win I'm going to have to think how I'm going to answer the phone at work. I might just have to call myself H.

"But, the main thing is to raise lots of money so I hope people all over the country will donate to help me raise a significant amount."
